A Brief Introduction.
With a background in surface pattern and printed textiles, Janine creates expressive, textural depictions of British countryside and coastal areas in paint, using expressive brush strokes, subtle colour and delicate detailing. The medium of painting enables Janine to explore her fascination and inspiration of the landscape with a carefully considered colour palette and a gentle hand, creating poetic scenes, rich with texture and delicate naïve detailing.
Now based at the West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, a wonderfully diverse creative environment which provides excellent space and light for Janine’s painting work to develop.
Using mixed media to create these textural pieces, Janine mainly paints on wood using acrylic, emulsion, pencil and oil pastel in her exploration. Photographs and sketches are used in the process to recreate the essence of scenes back in her studio, free to investigate those memories and captured moments.
More recently Janine has has been creating more narrative pieces that look to still life’s and painted collected pieces that have been gathered in her studio. Birds, books, ceramics, ephemera all play their part in telling the story.
Please feel free to drop Janine a line anytime to discuss possible commissions, exhibitions or general enquiries.
